Alex Brosque has scored two goals to help Sydney FC to a 3-0 victory over Perth Glory in their Hyundai A-League Pre Season Cup match at Wollongong's WIN Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Brosque scored back-to-back goals in the 26th and 27th minutes as Sydney took control of the match in cold but fine conditions.
The win left Sydney on top of the ladder at the end of the bonus round and set up a semi-final showdown with Adelaide next Friday night at the same venue.
Sydney was without star Dwight Yorke, who was initially expected to make his return to this side in Wollongong but was ruled out earlier in the week after sustaining an injury during training.
Stan Lazaridis was a late withdrawal for the Glory and remained at the team hotel after falling ill during the day.
Sydney was immediately on the attack with Brosque and Sasho Petrovski close to scoring from separate shots after a corner from Steve Corica, but Glory goalkeeper Andrew Crews withstood the early assault.
Brosque again had a chance in the seventh minute but his powerful shot cruised over the crossbar, but it was another sign of Sydney's attacking potency.
Perth hit back two minutes later when David Micevski raced up the middle and chipped left to Naum Sekulovski, but his rocketing shot was just high, shaving the crossbar on its way over.
It was to be the only meaningful shot at goal the Glory had in the first half, with the visitors unable to penetrate the solid defensive line in Sydney's half.
The breakthrough came for Sydney in the 26th minute when Brosque hammered home a brilliant diagonal cross from David Carney.
Crews came out to challenge the former Queensland striker, but the ball trickled underneath him and rolled into the back of the net.
The 6634-strong crowd only had to wait another minute before Brosque got his second, this time wrong-footing Crews before powering a Petrovski cross into the back of the net to give Sydney a 2-0 lead.
The hosts continued to pepper the Glory goal in search of a third, and despite solid shots from Carney and Petrovski, plus a long-range rocket from Mark Milligan, the inaugural A-League champion went to the break with the score unchanged.
While Perth initially looked to have stepped up its intensity as it quickly went on the attack, it didn't take long for the home side to regain the ascendancy.
Petrovski headed a perfect cross from Alvin Ceccoli just wide in the 50th minute, before another close-range shot five minutes later that Crews held on to.
But the Glory goalkeeper wasn't so lucky saving Petrovski's third attempt, with Sydney taking a 3-0 advantage in the 57th minute with a superb header.
The Glory never gave up as they attempted to close the margin late in the second half, but were unable to get past Sydney goalkeeper Clint Bolton.
Sydney will host the final should it defeat Adelaide United in Wollongong on Friday night.
