Biography

Barbiero is one of the Reds’ local South Australian success stories. Growing up playing in Adelaide’s southern suburbs before joining Super League club MetroStars, Barbiero was never picked in any under age representative squads but was invited to train with the Reds by former Coach Aurelio Vidmar. Signed initially as an injury replacement, Barbiero earned himself a full time contract, scoring the memorable winner in the Reds’ 2008/09 Preliminary Final victory over Brisbane Roar and less than a month later was rewarded with his first Qantas Socceroos cap. His value to the team is evidenced by his twice being named Adelaide United Best Team Man.
