Brisbane release Fitzgerald

Brisbane Roar has agreed to mutually terminate the youth contract of midfielder Nick Fitzgerald effective immediately.

The Sydney-born midfielder made 24 Hyundai A-League appearances for the club, scoring one goal.

The 20-year-old also featured in the club’s inaugural AFC Champions League campaign, scoring against eventual winners Ulsan Hyundai in Korea on matchday three.

Fitzgerald thanked the club for giving him an opportunity at Hyundai A-League level.

“I’d really like to thank all the players, (Head Coach) Mike Mulvey and (General Manager) Sean Dobson,” Fitzgerald said.

“I’ve had a good two years here in Brisbane and really enjoyed my time at the club.”

Fitzgerald’s youth contract was due to expire at the end of the current season and he has already signed a contract for next season with the Central Coast Mariners.

The club will be making no further comment on the matter.
