Biography
 
Matthew Smith spent two years plying his trade for Brisbane Strikers in the Queensland State League before being signed as a short-term injury replacement player for North Queensland Fury in late 2009. From there, the dependable central defender never looked back and after returning to the Queensland capital to play at the Roar, Smith quickly proved he was more than capable of playing at Hyundai A-League level. Mobile, quick-thinking and relentless in a challenge, Smith’s leadership on and off the field make him a worthy captain of the Hyundai A-League Champions. In December 2009, Smith made his Qantas Socceroos debut in the EAFF East Asian Cup qualifying tournament.
