Biography

Matthew Smith spent two years plying his trade for Brisbane Strikers in the Queensland State League before being signed as a short-term injury replacement player for North Queensland Fury in late 2009. From there, the dependable central defender never looked back and after returning to the Queensland capital to play under Ange Postecoglou at the Roar, Smith quickly proved he was more than capable of playing at Hyundai A-League level. Mobile, quick-thinking and relentless in a challenge, Smith’s presence in the back four was a key contributor to Brisbane Roar’s exceptional defensive record in the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season.
