Raeanne Dower appointed United Assistant Coach

Canberra United is delighted to announce the appointment of Raeanne Dower as Assistant Coach to Liesbeth Migchelsen for Season 6 of the Westfield W-League.

Dower, a native of Queensland, has played a distinguished part in the Youth Coaching scene in the Sunshine State for a number of years having been Head Coach of the Queensland State Representative girls teams at under-13, under-17 and under-18 levels.

The AFC/FFA pro-Diploma candidate has been Head Coach and Technical Director of the highly successful Redlands United who compete in the National Premier League: Queensland competition. Dower has also tasted international football having represented the Matildas in the Oceania Cup in 1989 following on from Australian Youth and Schoolgirl appearances.

“It’s fantastic for us to be able to welcome someone of Raeanne’s undoubted quality to our club” Canberra United CEO Heather Reid commented. “Following the move by Jitka Klimkova to the New Zealand national team programs, it was vital for us to get the most professional coaching staff in place and I am confident that with Raeanne assisting Liesbeth Migchelsen we have the right fit for the Westfield W-League Season 6 campaign.”

Earlier this week United announced that young star Hayley Raso would not be returning to the club at which she made her breakthrough into senior elite level football but with Dower now appointed alongside Migchelsen finalising player recruitments will be high on the agenda over the forthcoming weeks with the club in advanced stages of negotiation with several key new recruits.

“It’s understandably disappointing that Hayley has chosen to remain in Brisbane, but that is her home and that’s where she’s studying at University so we understand her reasoning. However with Raeanne’s experience of Australian football to add to Liesbeth’s global knowledge we are in the process of putting together a competitive and balanced roster for Season 6,” Reid said.
