Biography

Official Canberra United Cap Number: 28 Striker Michelle Heyman has seen her career take off over the course of the last two seasons following a sensational second season in the Westfield W-League. After being a bit part player for Sydney FC during Season One, Heyman really came to the fore after a transfer to the Central Coast Mariners for Season Two. What followed was a goal a game and an explosion into the national consciousness as the tall central forward found the net time and again as the Mariners made the finals for the first time in their history and almost grabbed top spot. Accolades for Heyman came thick and fast with her goals tally winning her the Golden Boot award and her overall performances being judged good enough for her to be presented with the Julie Dolan Medal for the Westfield W-League Player of the Year. National team coach Tom Sermanni noted her undeniable goal scoring talent and selected Heyman for the full Matildas side, as a 73rd minute substitute, in a 2-2 draw with DPR Korea in Brisbane, replacing Lisa De Vanna . Prior to her rise to national fame, Heyman was no stranger to finding the target with her 24 goals in 21 matches leading her club side, the Illawarra Stingrays, to a NSW Premiership and Championship double. This incredible feat ensured that Heyman would also pocket the Football NSW Platinum Medal for 2009. 2010 and beyond promised more of the same for this potent attacking weapon.
