Biography

Troy Hearfield is another of the new recruits on the Mariners books for the 2011/12 Hyundai A-League season. With five years of top flight Australian football under his belt, Hearfield arrives at the Mariners from Indonesian Super League side Pelita Jaya, whom he joined on loan for the first half of 2011. Earning instant cult status with the Mariners faithful, Hearfield came off the bench to score the only goal of the game against Scottish powerhouse Glasgow Celtic in the Mariners 1-nil international friendly triumph on Saturday 2 July, 2011. A member of the Newcastle Jets squad that won the 2007/08 A-League Championship, 23-year-old Hearfield is originally from Tamworth – the country music capital of Australia. Hearfield has represented Australia at youth level, and came of age under Ricki Herbert at Wellington Phoenix. Originally a striker, one of Hearfield’s key attributes now is his flexibility to be deployed in a number of positions on the pitch.
