Congratulations are in order for Jade North, Mark Bridge, Stuart Musialik and new signing Joel Griffiths who have been called up for the Socceroos train-on squad.
The 22-man squad will be reduced to 18 for the Asian Cup qualifying game agains Kuwait.
Australia was placed in qualifying Group D along with Kuwait, Lebanon and Bahrain. Kuwait has played two matches and drawn both, 1-1 against Lebanon and 0-0 against Bahrain. Australia has only played one qualifier due to their involvement in the World Cup. In this match they defeated Bahrain 3-1 and are on top of the Group D heading into this match.
The qualifier against Kuwait will be played on 16th August 2006 at Aussie Stadium in Sydney.
Congratulations are also in order for Tarek Elrich and Troy Hearfield who have been called into a Qantas Young Socceroo squad to tour South America in preparation for October’s Asian qualifiers for the 2007 FIFA World Youth Championship.
The squad will be playing 5 matches on the tour. 2 fixtures will be against Chilean clubs Colo Colo on Aug 3 and Universidad de Chile on Aug 6. 3 internationals will be played against Argentina on Aug 9 and against Chile on Aug 12 and Aug 14.
