Jungschlager to keep serving up Dutch treats

DUTCH dynamo Peter Jungschlager is showing his versatility as well as his quality for Gold Coast United and says he is ready to step up for the club in whatever position he is asked to play.

The 27-year-old former De Graafschapp midfielder found his feet early in the Hyundai A-League and with United now on the up, he’s also found a smile with his winning mentality fuelled by Gold Coast’s recent results.

“We’ve picked up seven points from three games so we can afford a smile now because we’re on a nice little run at the moment,” said the likeable midfielder.

“I’m happy with my own performances and the rest of the team as well. I thought we played very well against Brisbane and hopefully we can do the same against Central Coast.

“I started the game at right full-back and when Dylan Macallister had to leave the field early with his injury I was pushed into the midfield again, which I enjoyed. But wherever I’m asked to play I will always do my best for the team.

“In the early games I managed to give three assists and score two goals from the midfield position, so I was happy with that,” he said.

With eleven Hyundai A-League games under his belt Jungschlager is well positioned to evaluate the standard of the competition after arriving from the top division in Holland.

Having played every other team in the league, the Dutchman confirmed the high standard of the opposition, as well as his own team.

“I think it’s the good level here. Everyone wants to play football and that’s good,” he said.

“Even since the start of the season some teams have got better and we have got better also – so have our results. Every team tries to play the ball around and look for openings, which is a nice way to play the game.”

United’s trip to Gosford shapes as another tough outing for Jungschlager and his teammates against a side that is bang in form.

The last time the two sides met ended 1-1 with Central Coast grabbing a leveller in the dying minutes after James Brown had given United the lead with a fine strike. The scoreline left a bad taste in the mouths of the Gold Coast players who believed they had done enough to take all three points, and this time Jungschlager is confident of completing the job.

“They equalised late in that game and we had no time left to really push forward for another goal, but a 1-1 draw down there was still a good result,” he said.

“They play a four-four-two formation so we may alter what we do a little bit. The first match against them was a good battle and we’re expecting the same thing again.

“The Mariners are doing very well and are on a good run, but so are we now and we are confident of getting a result there. We want to keep moving towards the top six and everyone is hungry to do just that.”
