Brebner receives one-match ban

Melbourne Victory midfielder Grant Brebner has been suspended for one match for his challenge on Melbourne Heart striker Eli Babalj.

Brebner who made the challenge in the 74th minute of the latest installment of the Melbourne derby was given a straight red card by referee Jarred Gillett.

The Indepoendent Match Review Panel today announced Brebner would be banned for just the one match, without the option for the player or his club to appeal the decision, as the challenge was considered to be serious foul play.

The Victory will therefore be without Brebner in their all-important clash with Central Coast Mariners on Friday night.
