Biography

Melbourne Heart FC received a massive boost to their squad with the signing of Brazilian play-maker Fred. Fred signed a two-year deal with the club in June, joining from DC United in the Major Soccer League. Fred started his career in Brazil playing for Olympic Barbacena, Tupi FC, America and Guarani before impressing enough to warrant a move to Australia. He scored four goals in his time in Melbourne, with a staggering amount of assists. After the 2006/07 season he moved on to DC United in the United States where he scored a very impressive 11 goals as an attacking midfielder. He returned to Australia on loan to Wellington Phoenix in 2008 but due to personal reasons he returned to Brazil before joining the DC squad soon after. He was traded to Philadelphia Union in the 2010 MLS draft where he enjoyed a successful stint. Although after one season Fred returned to DC United before signing for Melbourne Heart FC. Fred’s quality play-making skills in his position behind the strikers will be an influential factor in the Heart’s quest for the finals in the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season.
