Biography

David Williams became the first indigenous player to represent a Melbourne club when he joined Melbourne Heart FC in June 2011 on a three-year deal. He is also one of the few Australian players of indigenous descent to represent the Qantas Socceroos, which he did on two occasions, after more than 30 youth international and Olyroos appearances. The talented forward, who has been rated as one of Australia’s brightest young talents, played for five years followed by two seasons at North Queensland Fury. Once labelled as the best Australian prospect since Harry Kewell, Williams is quickly learning that no matter how talented you are, you still must work hard for opportunities. "It proves the point that not everyone can just walk into a team, from wherever they're from, and expect to play," he said. Away from football, David is committed to his work with indigenous Australians. He is involved in several mentoring programs, including an initiative with MHFC, Mildura United Soccer Club and Leadership Victoria. As a valuable role model and ambassador, Davis is in high demand at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander events all over the country.
