Biography

Renowned for his ability to play in the midfield or defence, Melbourne Heart FC’s Matt Thompson is the current holder of the Hyundai A-League’s all-time appearance record, with 150 matches across six seasons. With four Socceroo caps, Thompson is regarded as one of the leading players on the domestic scene, and justified his billing with a stellar first season in Red and White, which saw him assume a central defensive role. A member of the Newcastle Jets’ 2008 championship side, Thompson has already experienced success in the Hyundai A-League and featured in the Hunter Valley side’s run to the knockout stages of the AFC Champions League.
