Heskey out for six weeks

Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets striker Emile Heskey will be sidelined for six weeks after suffering a Grade 2 medial ligament strain in his left knee during the Jets’ pre-season trial match against Melbourne Victory.

Heskey sustained the injury in the 23rd minute of the contest following a strong tackle from Melbourne Victory defender Nick Ansell.

Scans today revealed the former England international is likely to miss the opening three rounds of the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League season, with the Jets’ Round 4 F3 Derby clash with the Central Coast Mariners looming as potential date for his return.

Meanwhile, Jets forward Nathan Burns is awaiting the results of scans to determine the severity of a hamstring strain he sustained during the warm-up to yesterday’s match against the Victory.

Burns was not risked during the match and will have confirmation on the extent of his injury within the next 24 hours.

Who will be the Jets' top goal scorer in 2013/14?
