The Technical Bench

It was really pleasing to grind out a tough 1-0 win over Adelaide in front of all our Members and supporters at Hunter Stadium last Friday night.

It was a difficult game against Adelaide. They’re very mature and have some experienced players that make it difficult for you.

It was pleasing that we had a lot of possession again, similar to the previous week, but this time we were able to do a little bit more with it. To get the three points was the most important thing.

If you look at the team now as opposed to early on, you can see there are some patterns developing with the players.

They are really beginning to understand what is required of them individually and also as a team and we’ll continue to work on that over the next four to six weeks.

Our next challenge comes against the Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park tomorrow night. Last time we went to Melbourne we scored two own goals, but a lot of that was due to the pressure that they put on us.

We know what’s going to come at us from the likes of Kewell, Thompson and Hernandez so we just need to be very mindful of where they are dangerous.

We need to make sure we take care of those dangerous players individually, but also make sure that as a team we continue with the same sort of processes we’ve been going through during this good run.

Our back four has been quite solid in the last few games and we’ve managed to keep a few clean sheets. It’s been positive the way the boys at the back and Ben Kennedy have played.

However, we’ve played with a back three at times and that’s done quite well for us as well so we’ll how the game unfolds and whether we’re chasing the game or in control.

Hopefully we’ll be able to pick up the three points and move a step closer to booking a place in the finals series.
