Roar youth thump Victory

Brisbane Roar have thumped Melbourne Victory 6-1 in their National Youth League clash after a second-half avalanche of goals at SS Anderson Reserve on Sunday.

James Meyer started off the scoring just after half-time before Kwame Yeboah's double effectively ended the Victory's hopes.

Roar substitutes Kenneth Dougall, Anthony Proia, Patrick Theodore completed a crushing win as Melboune scored in stoppage time through Julius Davies.

The match started off at a frenetic pace with Victory duo Sam Gallagher and Jimmy Jeggo both yellow carded within the opening 12 minutes.

Despite maintaining a possession dominance, the home side were extremely susceptible on the break and Brisbane took advantage of the space left in behind early in the second half.

Once on the scoresheet, the Roar broke Victory's rhythm with a three goal burst in seven minutes to setup the crushing victory.

After an even opening, Brisbane midfielder Rocky Visconte stung the keepers gloves from range before nearly jinking his way through the Victory defence.

It took Victory to the 15th minute to trouble the Roar rearguard as Connor Pain teased a cross through the six yard box with Christopher Cristaldo just failing to make contact.

The deadlocked half-time scoreline accurately reflected the first period and nobody could have seen the goal onslaught to come in the second half.

Five minutes after the restart, the Roar streaked through the middle on the counter and after a brilliant one-two between Nick Fitzgerald and Meyer, the latter stroked home the opener in the bottom left corner of the net.

When the clock hit 57 minutes, Brisbane were three-up after Yeboah converted a penalty he won and also finished clinically past Lawrence Thomas.

The lead was extended shortly after as substitute Dougall converted another penalty after being brought down by Gallagher.

The rout was confirmed in the final stages as substitutes Proia and Theodore both found the net from the six-yard box before Davies' consolation goal for Victory rounded out the match.

The heavy loss denied Victory the chance to end the round on top while Brisbane jumped to fifth as a new threat to the top four.
