Conditions made it hard for both teams to settle but it was the AIS who quickly gained the advantage, building a three-goal lead in the opening half an hour as the turf continued to be slippery under foot.

Anthony Kalik opened the scoring for the hosts in the 11th minute, converting a penalty kick past Glory goalkeeper Luke Radonich after being fouled on the goal line while in a clear goal-scoring position.

AIS doubled their lead moments later when Matthew Schmidt flicked on a corner ball into the far corner of the net, before Ben Warland nodded home an in-swinging cross in the 29th minute to make it 3-0.

Perth started to work their way into the game with Harry O'Brien forcing AIS keeper Jordan Thurtell into a good save but the home side managed to maintain their three goal buffer as they headed into the half-time break.

AIS coach Tony Vidmar made three changes on the hour and it was one of his substitutes, Marc Marino, who made the game safe in the 63rd minute, closing down Radonich in the Perth Glory goal to block an attempted clearance and deflect the ball into an empty net.

Perth continued to chase the game and were rewarded for their spirit and hard work when Jordan Pudler scored an own goal off a Glory corner set-piece in the 69th minute and an unlikely comeback looked on the cards eight minutes later when substitute Darcy Cosgrove scored Glory’s second after reacting quickest to his own header which had crashed back off the upright.

Glory continued pushing for their third but AIS managed to repel the repeated attacks and eventually found Marino on the break, with the striker bursting through and slotting the ball under Radonich's legs for AIS’ fifth and his second of the match.
