| Ukrainian-born Rukavytsya burst into the scene as a striker with Perth Glory in 2007-08, scoring six goals in the final eight games of the season.
His speed and ability in front of goal secured a spot in the Under 23s squad for the 2008 Olympic Games and he returned to Perth a renewed confidence but with an eye on Europe.
He took up a contract with Dutch side FC Twente in January 2009 and after only a handful of games in 12 months, decided on a loan deal with Belgian outfit KSV Roeselare in January 2010.
He scored regularly in Belgium and that form was enough for him to make the squad of 31 for the 2010 World Cup, where he featured in two of Australia’s group games.
After the tournament, Rukavytsya signed with German second division side Hertha Berlin, helping to secure promotion back to the Bundesliga for season 2011. |
