Biography
 
Sigmund signed for the Phoenix for the start of A-League 2008-09 season from Auckland City FC and immediately cemented himself as coach Ricki Herbert's first choice centre back, starting 13 of 15 games played with one assist. Sigmund scored his first goal for the Nix in the first game of the 2009-10 season against the Newcastle Jets in a 3-2 loss. Sigmund is a fan favourite for his uncompromising and no nonsense style and was named the fans’ Player of the Season in 2010/11. Sigmund was named New Zealand Football Player of the year following a successful 2007-08 season with club and country. Sigmund was named as part of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup New Zealand squad to travel to South Africa and was in the side the beat Bahrain in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification match on 14 November 2009. Sigmund played every game at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
