Australia set for second New Zealand training match

The Olyroos will take on New Zealand for the second time in a week as preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Men’s Football Tournament continue.

The training match will again be played at the ZA Oripri Stadium in Ichihara City and will be held on Thursday, 15 July 2021 with kick-off at 6pm local time (7pm AEST). The game will not be broadcast or live streamed, however again regular social media updates will be made available via socceroos.com.au and the official Socceroos Twitter handle.

The two nations met on Monday, with New Zealand coming away with a 2-0 victory in a hit-out that saw the majority of the Australian squad enjoy some valuable match minutes.

National Teams Tokyo 2020 Olympics U23s Hub


Australia’s men’s football team has arrived in Japan and after a few days of training at the J-Village National Training Centre in Fukushima Prefecture, have spent the last week in Chiba Prefecture, east of the capital Tokyo. 

Following these international friendlies Australia’s delegation will travel north to Sapporo to commence its Group C fixtures. Australia’s men’s football team will play Argentina at the Sapporo Dome on Thursday, 22 July – a day prior to the Tokyo 2020 Opening Ceremony in Tokyo – before playing Spain at the same venue three days later. Australia will round out its Group Stage fixtures against Egypt at the Miyagi Stadium in Rifu on Wednesday, 28 July.
