CommBank Matildas add Portugal to close out June window

June will see the Commonwealth Bank Matildas complete the FIFA Window with a clash against EURO 2022 bound Portugal at the Estádio António Coimbra da Mota, Estoril on Tuesday, 28 June 2022.

The addition of Selecção das Quinas completes a June schedule that sees the CommBank Matildas travel to the Iberian Peninsula to meet Spain and Francisco Neto’s side.

The last meeting between Portugal and Australia was also on the hosts’ home turf at the 2018 Algarve Cup in Albufeira. CommBank Matildas head coach Tony Gustavsson said:

“We will be meeting Portugal at a time they will be in some of their strongest form with the European Championships just around the corner. Matches against Portugal have always been tight encounters in the past, and we are anticipating they will once again be a fierce competitor next month.”

“These two fixtures against strong nations such as Spain and Portugal will pose another new set of questions for us to answer as we continue to lay the foundations and embed the fundamentals of our team play.

“Taking on teams in their final preparations for a major championship will give us an additional occasion to work on developing our chemistry and combinations at high intensity.”

The June window sees a return to Europe and European opposition for the CommBank Matildas for the first time in nine months. It follows a trend of diverse opponents and styles with nations from North America, South America, Asia, and Oceania part of the mix.

Australia’s international friendlies against Spain and Portugal will be broadcast live on Network 10, 10 Play and Paramount+. Coverage for the CommBank Matildas v Spain will commence at 5.00am AEST.
