Sam Kerr nominated for The Best FIFA Women’s Player 2021 award

Sam Kerr has been nominated for The Best FIFA Women’s Player for the fifth year in a row. 

The 28-year-old Chelsea striker is part of an 11-woman shortlist vying for the prestigious prize. Kerr finds herself nominated alongside three fellow Chelsea teammates in Pernilla Harder, Magdalena Eriksson and Ji So-Yun.

The award - which was won last year by England's Lucy Bronze - is based on footballing achievements from October 8, 2020, to August 6, 2021, inclusive.

This period has seen Kerr star for both club and country, helping Chelsea to a first-ever UEFA Women's Champions League Final and captaining Australia at the recent Olympic Games, which saw us reach our best-ever Olympic placing of fourth-place.

During that specified period of time, Kerr won the Golden Boot in the FA WSL with 21 goals to her name. The 2020-21 season saw Chelsea lift the FA WSL Championship, FA Women's League Cup and the Women's FA Community Shield. 


For country Kerr netted six goals at the Olympic Games and now stands as the Matildas all-time leading goalscorer. The striker is closing in on Tim Cahill's Australian goals record, with just two more goals to overtake the Socceroos legend.
