Vale Vic Dalgleish

Football Australia is deeply saddened to have learned of the passing of Hall of Famer, Vic Dalgleish, at age 85.

Dalgleish, born in Scotland, moved to Australia in 1972 and passed his Australian Soccer Federation Levels 2 and 3 coaching courses.

In 1976, as NSW coach, he began a series of national titles wins starting with Under 12, then Under 13 (1977), Under 14 (1978), and Under 15 (1979).

He was appointed Australian U-16 coach in 1983, won the Oceania title and reached the quarter finals of the FIFA U-16 World Championship in 1985 in China, defeating Argentina and West Germany on the way.

He won the Oceania title again in 1986 and in 1987 again reached the quarter finals of the FIFA U-16 World Championship in Canada, defeating Saudi Arabia and Brazil.

In 1989, he won the Oceania title for a third time, and coached the Joeys at the FIFA U-16 World Championship in Scotland.

That squad featured a number of future Socceroos, with Dalgleish mentoring a huge selection of future national team and NSL players during his time as a coach.

In a 40-year coaching career, Dalgleish also worked as the NSW staff coach, club coach and development officer for the Sydney area.

In 2005 he was inducted into the Football Australia Hall of Fame for his outstanding services to Australian football.

Football Australia extends its deepest sympathies to the immediate and extended Dalgleish family, and those closest to Vic.
