All-Australian match official team chosen for AFC Cup™ 2022 Final

Football Australia is delighted to confirm that an all-Australian match official team has been appointed by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to preside over the AFC Cup™ 2022 Final between Kuala Lumpur City FC and Al Seeb Club.

Shaun Evans will lead the all-Australian team selected to manage the final to be played on Saturday, 22 October in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Evans, who has refereed almost 150 Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s matches, will officiate the match alongside assistant referees Owen Goldrick and George Larkindis.

Jonathan Barreiro and Ryan Gallagher will serve as fourth and fifth officials respectively, while Chris Beath is the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and joined by Kate Jacewicz and Alex King as his assistants.

Mathew Cheeseman will be the VAR Information Officer on the night at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

On announcing the news, Football Australia Head of Referees Nathan Magill said: “This is a landmark moment for Australian football and deserved acknowledgment for the outstanding work of these nine officials over a prolonged period of time,” Magill said.

“The appointment of this all-Australian match official team is also a reflection on the hard work being undertaken by Football Australia and the Member Federations in developing world-leading officials, who continue to be recognised regularly on the international stage.

“Saturday will be a proud occasion for all nine officials and their families, and on behalf of Football Australia we send our heartiest congratulations to all and wish them well for the final,” Magill concluded.
