Chris Beath appointed referee for 2022/23 A-League Men's Grand Final

Football Australia is pleased to announce that Queensland’s Chris Beath will preside over this Saturday’s 2022-23 Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s Grand Final between Melbourne City FC and Central Coast Mariners FC at CommBank Stadium in Sydney.

Supporting Beath will be Assistant Referees, Anton Shchetinin (QLD) and Ashley Beecham (QLD), along with Fourth Official Adam Kersey (QLD) and Fifth Official Brad Wright (NSW).

This will be Chris Beath’s fourth appointment as the referee for a A-League/A-League Men’s Grand Final, having whistled the 2019-20, 2020-21, and 2021-22 season-ending match. It will be Beath’s sixth A-League/A-League Men’s Grand Final involvement overall, having also been an Additional Assistant Referee in 2016, and Fourth Official in 2019.

Saturday’s match will see Shchetinin and Beecham joining Beath for their second decider, after the same trio were appointed for last season’s final between Western United FC and Melbourne City FC at AAMI Park in Melbourne. Kersey and Wright will be involved in their first A-League Men’s Grand Final.

Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for the Grand Final will be Kate Jacewicz (VIC), supported by Assistant VARs, Shaun Evans (VIC) and Kearney Robinson (NSW).

Football Australia Head of Referees Nathan Magill said these appointments are warranted following outstanding performances by all named officials throughout the 2022-23 A-League Men’s season.

“Saturday’s A-League Men’s Grand Final is not just the pinnacle event in the domestic match calendar for players and coaches but for officials, where those appointed have been our most consistent performers throughout the season and are thoroughly deserving of this recognition.

“This year’s Grand Final will mark the fourth consecutive referee appointment for Chris Beath, who has had yet another standout 12-months both at a domestic level and when representing Australia abroad at AFC and FIFA tournaments.

“Football Australia along with the Referees Committee would like to extend our sincere thanks to the entire match officials panel for their upmost professionalism and unwavering commitment throughout the 2022-23 season, where the panel proceeded over an exciting A-League Men’s regular season and Finals Series,” concluded Magill.
