Vale John Roche

Football Australia is saddened to hear of the passing of Socceroo cap #215, John Roche.

For the majority of his club career, John represented Marconi.

On the international stage, he was a member of Australia's 18-player 1970 World Tour squad, earning four 'A international' caps in the process of his 11 Socceroos appearances in total.

Under the tutelage of Rale Rasic and Les Scheinflug, the squad played 15 matches in nine nations, over 39 days.

Roche was among the younger members of the squad selected, with an eye on building experience ahead of the 1974 FIFA World Cup; at the time, Johnny Warren was his Captain and mentor.

Injury would unfortunately prevent Roche the chance to represent Australia at the 1974 tournament, however in the years that followed he would become duel international, playing for Hong Kong against Sweden.

Football Australia and the Socceroos family sends its condolences the those closest to John during this sad time.
