Gary Wilkins

Gary Wilkins was born in Queensland in 1945 and had a prominent career as a player before switching to administration.

From 1964-74 he played for the Brisbane Lions, winning six premierships. He represented Queensland 35 times, including 34 games as captain.

He was selected four times for Australia, was a member of the unbeaten 1967 tour of Vietnam/Indonesia and played 18 matches against touring clubs.

In 1979 Wilkins became director of the Brisbane Lions. He was elected chairman in 1993 and became vice-chairman of Queensland Roar (now Brisbane Roar) in the A League.

Wilkins was awarded the 2000 Australian Sports Medal for services to soccer as well as the 2003 Centenary Medal.

His career has included terms as the coach for Ipswich and Brisbane junior representative teams.
