Steph Catley and Alex Brosque announced as Leagues Fan Ambassadors

Football Federation Australia have announced that Westfield Matilda Steph Catley along with Former Socceroo and Hyundai A-League Championship winning Captain, Alex Brosque, have been named the inaugural Leagues Fan Ambassadors.

FFA Head of Leagues, Greg O’Rourke, welcomed Steph and Alex to their new roles which will focus on supporting a key priority of connecting grassroots participants with the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League.

“A core component of our Leagues strategy is to introduce and connect participants as fans, and we are really thrilled to have  Alex and Steph on board, as the figureheads to advocate for the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League, “said O’Rourke

“The purpose of this program is to increase engagement and awareness across the Leagues target audience of the participants who play our game and families.

“We hope the Leagues Ambassadors will help to further link the professional league to grassroots community Clubs, and highlight the special match day experiences provided to participants and their families,” concluded O’Rourke.

With 79 appearances for the Westfield Matildas and four Westfield W-League Championships to her name, Steph Catley is well-placed to spruik the qualities of the Westfield W-League.

“I am excited to be the new Fan Ambassador for the Hyundai A-League and Westfield W-League. I began my Westfield W-League season in 2009 and this is my eleventh campaign so far. During that time I have not only developed as a player, I have been fortunate to play with and against some of the best female footballers in the world,” said Catley.

“The Westfield W-League is also the perfect place for our young and upcoming Matildas to develop their game and from what we have seen this season, the future of Women’s Football in Australia is looking good.

“Because of the quality of players across the Leagues, this is the ideal competition for junior participants to watch some of the best players week in week out,’ concluded Catley.

Alex Brosque was a foundation player in the Hyundai A-League back in 2005 and now that he has retired from playing, he continues to support the game as a parent with his family at matches.

“The Hyundai A-League will always be a special competition for me as a player. It has given me some amazing memories and friendships along the way,” said Brosque

“Now that I have retired as player, it’s great to be able to experience the game as a fan and take my kids to matches now to enjoy the atmosphere and excitement.

“I am proud to be a Leagues Ambassador and hopefully I will be able to encourage others to share in the enjoyment that me and my family currently experience,” concluded Brosque.
