Tony Vidmar

Tony Vidmar was born in Adelaide, Australia and represented his country alongside brother Aurelio.

His national team debut came against Czechoslovakia in 1991 when he was playing with Adelaide City, with his last appearance coming on that famous night on 16 November 2005.

He made 91 appearances (76 full 'A' internationals, 15 non-A matches) for the Socceroos over a 15-year international career and scored a vital goal during the penalty shoot out against Uruguay which put Australia into the World Cup.

A versatile defender who can play anywhere in the defensive line, Vidmar has been part of four World Cup qualifying campaigns and is one of the most capped players in Australian history, only recently being knocked out of the top 10.

Vidmar represented some big clubs during his playing career, playing for the likes of NAC Breda (Netherlands), Rangers (Scotland), Middlesbrough (England), and Cardiff City (Wales), before returning to Australia to play for the Central Coast Mariners in the A-League.

Since retiring from playing, Vidmar has moved into the coaching space, and is currently (as of 2019) an assistant coach to Graham Arnold with the Socceroos.
