Born in Australia in 1942, Peter Gray spent 41 years in Australian soccer as a player and administrator.
During the 1960s he played nine years as a goalkeeper for a number of NSW Soccer Federation clubs.
After retiring as a player in 1975, Gray linked with the Cronulla Seagulls Junior Club, becoming president two years later.
He subsequently earned the presidency of the Sutherland Sharks in the NSW State League.
Gray was elected a board member of the NSW Federation in 1986 and was president from 1991 to 2002.
Elected Soccer Australia Commissioner in 1995, Gray took part in more than 100 official appearances involving the national teams.
He was head of soccer at the Atlanta Olympic Games and tour or delegation leader at World and Confederation Cup tournaments.
Gray was elected life member of the NSW Soccer Federation and the two Sydney clubs before retiring in January 2002.
Gray also served as Gold Coast Soccer president for several years following his time in New South Wales, working tirelessly to help grow the game in the region and also played a role in the formation of Gold Coast United entering the A-League.
His ability to relate well with players and officials at every level of the game caps Gray's significant contribution to the sport.
Gray passed away after a long battle with illness in July 2023.
